Presentation Modalities

The core of this call is the submission of EXTENDED ABSTRACTS. All proposals, whether for oral presentation or poster, will be initially submitted and evaluated through an extended abstract of up to 2,000 words, with a minimum of 500 words, in Portuguese, English, or Spanish. The choice of presentation modality must be indicated at the time of submission.

The extended abstracts may present theoretical papers, empirical research, methodological studies, analyses of policies, plans and programs, architectural, urban, and landscape design projects (built or unbuilt), cartographies, visual essays, institutional or community experiences, artistic interventions, and cultural, pedagogical, or curatorial practices.

Contributions from urbanism, architecture, urban and regional planning, geography, sociology, anthropology, arts, public policy, public health, social assistance, care economy, education, environmental studies, law, philosophy, design, and related fields are welcome.

Presentation Modalities

Oral communication. The papers approved in this modality will be organized in thematic sessions. Each presentation will last 12 minutes, followed by comments and collective debate.

Poster. This modality is specially intended for ongoing research, scientific initiation, master's and doctoral degrees, teaching and extension experiences, projects, cartographies, territorial surveys, community experiences, and papers in which graphic and visual communication plays a relevant role.

Important: submission for a poster will also be made through an extended abstract of up to 2,000 words, with a minimum of 500 words. Only after acceptance will the production of the final poster be requested, in vertical A1 format (59.4 x 84.1 cm), single page and PDF file.

The poster session will be held in the second half of the afternoon of the first day of the meeting, in an open and interactive format, favoring the circulation of the public, direct dialogue with authors, and the exchange between different experiences and fields of action.

Content of the extended abstract

The extended abstract must have at least 500 words and up to 2,000 words, including notes and excluding bibliographical references.

Title of the paper;
Name(s) of the author(s), institutional or collective affiliation, and contact e-mail;
Intended modality: Oral Communication or Poster;
Indication of the main thematic axis;
Abstract of up to 200 words;
Three to five keywords;
Synthetic development clarifying the problem, question, experience, or central situation;
Objective;
Theoretical, methodological, empirical, projective, artistic, or experimental approach, according to the nature of the paper;
Main arguments, results, propositions, experiences, or contributions;
Bibliographical references;
Images, maps, photographs, tables, or diagrams, when relevant, with caption and source.

Projects, artistic works, cartographies, and experience reports may adapt this structure to the nature of the proposal, provided that the extended abstract clearly presents the problem or context, the objectives, the procedures or processes developed, and its contribution to the debate on cities of care.

Formatting of the extended abstract

Two files in .docx or .pdf format, one with authorship and one without;
A4 Page;
Calibri, Arial, or Times New Roman font, size 11 or 12;
Line spacing of 1.15 or 1.5;
Margins of 2.5 cm;
Bold title, followed by authorship, institutional affiliation, and e-mail;
References in a consistent academic standard, preferably ABNT, APA, or Chicago.

Evaluation criteria

Relevance to the general theme of the meeting and the indicated axis;
Clarity of the problem, question, experience, or situation presented;
Theoretical, methodological, empirical, projective, artistic, or experimental consistency;
Originality and relevance of the contribution;
Ability to relate care to urban, territorial, political, social, or socio-ecological dimensions;
Recognition of subjects, inequalities, and the distribution of care responsibilities, when relevant;
Contribution to the academic, professional, institutional, civic, or community debate;
Quality of writing, organization, and compliance with the guidelines.

The evaluation will respect the diversity of the proposals. Projects, experience reports, community practices, artistic works, and posters will not be evaluated by the simple reproduction of the formal criteria of a conventional scientific article.
